ROOTED IN EVANSTON

Community has always been at the heart of Burl. From our home on Central Street to the farms and shops around us, we believe good food is meant to be shared beyond our walls…and the table is only getting bigger. We’re just beginning to share what’s next, and we’d love for you to be part of it.

Gala in the Garden

Raise The Barn

Burl joined Raise the Barn, a fall festival supporting urban agriculture, hosted on a 2.5-acre farm in Skokie. Chef Tom Carlin cooked alongside friends from All Together Now!, Tripping Billy, Virtue Cider, Middle Brow, Trogo Kitchen & Market, and Elle’s Marshmallows, with the evening featuring natural wines and ciders, live music, fire pits, and s’mores. A celebration of food, community, and the season.

An intimate summer dinner at Elawa Farm brought guests together for a five-course feast rooted in seasonal produce and careful sourcing. Set on the farm’s historic grounds, the evening opened with a welcome cocktail and continued through a menu highlighting summer at its peak.

A neighborhood cookout at Mack’s Bike & Goods brought friends and neighbors together for an afternoon of good food, cold drinks, and easy company. Burl served grilled roti with gyro sausage, peach, cucumbers, and herbs, alongside smoky peppers with parmesan.

Seedling Farm Midsummer Celebration

Set at Seedling Farm in South Haven, this gathering brought together chefs and friends for a communal meal rooted in farm-fresh ingredients. The menu highlighted lamb from Catalpa Grove, house breads, and a table of sides and sauces from bar Berria, Pennyroyal Cafe & Provisions, and Chef Jorge Campos.

We teamed up with ParentConnect for a relaxed happy hour in the Garden Room at Shumaker Curated, bringing together local parents over good food, drinks, and conversation. Guests enjoyed small bites from Chef Tom Carlin, alongside wine and beer, with time to explore Shumaker Curated’s boutique showroom and neighboring Little Gems.

Join the Infant Welfare Society of Evanston under our twinkling big tent at Ward Farm to celebrate how IWSE helps children and families succeed. Guests can enjoy delicious multi-cultural bites from six local celebrity chefs, two open bars, and a variety of whimsical entertainers. The festive evening will also include music and dancing with DJ Mwelwa, a wine pull, and a celebration honoring our community partners and leadership. Your attendance at this casual, fun-filled event directly supports IWSE’s three vital programs serving young children.
